Nabihah Iqbal is a musician, producer, DJ, and broadcaster from London. 2023 will see Nabihah Iqbal release her eagerly-awaited sophomore album ‘Dreamer’ via Ninja Tune, the follow-up to her 2017 critically acclaimed debut ‘Weighing of the Heart’. Aside from working on her own music, Nabihah has hosted a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio since 2013, exploring musical traditions and cultures without boundaries. Nabihah has frequently appeared on the BBC networks since 2018, presenting shows on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Asian Network, World Service, and 6 Music. She has toured extensively around the world, both as a live act and as a DJ. Performance highlights include the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, as well as the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Barbican, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, K11 Art Institute in Shanghai, and MoMAPS1 in New York. Inter-disciplinary projects form an important part of Nabihah’s work and she has collaborated with Chinese artist Zhang Ding, with Wolfgang Tillmans as part of his Tate Modern exhibition and was recently involved in a group performance at the Barbican as part of its major Basquiat retrospective. Nabihah is also an experienced curator, running her ever-popular ‘Glory to Sound’ events in London, and has recently been announced as Guest Director for the esteemed Brighton Festival in 2023.
Berlin-based HABIBI FUNK (GER) is set to make his Australian debut with a DJ set that showcases rare 45" records from the Arab and North African diaspora. Known for his eclectic taste, HABIBI FUNK's set will feature heavy flavors of hip-hop, disco, funk, and more, all of which have been released on his beloved namesake label Habibi Funk Records. Notably, Habibi Funk Records is a reissue record label that is dedicated to music from the Arab world and prides itself on adhering to ethical practices by giving back to the artists and SWANA communities. The label was co-founded by Jannis Stürtz, who also performs as a DJ under the name Habibi Funk, and is mostly known for its albums and accompanying booklets of Arabic funk and soul bands from the 1960s to the 1980s. With his expansive knowledge and passion for music, HABIBI FUNK is sure to leave a lasting impression on Australian audiences.
